Kuberulu - All gags and no tale

Laughter is one element that makes us humans stand apart. Some people say humor is the outcome of madness. Yet, some agree that the sense of humor is the much needed armor. Joy in one’s heart and a smile on one’s lips is the sign that depicts the person is deep down has a pretty good grasp on life and its ways. People of modern days fail to smile often and it has become the much needed ingredient in the busy life of contemporary times.

Based on the humor quotient, director Srinivas Reddy has made the movie ‘Kuberulu’ with a tagline “Vallaki Anni Appule”, starring Shivaji, Ali, Farzana, Krishna Bhagavan, Kausha in the lead roles. The movie got released on the 4th of December. A review is presented below on the same.

Story

Three simpletons Yarlagadda Siva Ram (Shivaji), Chitti Babu (Ali) and Rambabu aka Rambo (Krishna Bhagavan) hail from the village called Devarapalli. Their life is pretty ordinary yet they dream big all the time.

Being an ardent fan of chief minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy, Siva Ram has a habitual practice of imitating the leader. He is interested in politics and cherishes a long time dream to become the Sarpanch of his village. In his first step, he makes an attempt to lend a helping hand for the prosperity of Devarapalli. But, as a twist of fate, his endeavor fails which lands him in a pile of debts. Unable to face the rage of his fellow villagers, he travels to Hyderabad.

Accompanied with his buddy Chitti Babu, he lands in the big city with lots of hope. Rambabu from their native village gives shelter to the runaway duo in Bhagyanagar Colony.

During his stay in the city, Siva Ram comes across a chance encounter with doctor Kalpana. On a fateful day, he eavesdrop Kalpana’s conversation with Saleem (Dr Sivaprasad), a gangster who’s involved in Nizam Jewellery’s theft, regarding a cell phone. The story starts off at this point and events unfold as it progresses.

Did SivaRam’s aspiration to be Sarpanch come true? In what way is the cell phone involved in the plot? One should see the movie to get these questions answered.

Performance of Artists

Shivaji in the role of Yarlagadda Siva Ram who imitates YSR, has delivered a noteworthy performance. Similarly, Ali as Chitti babu who apes Chandra Babu Naidu has exhibited a good acting. Both of them in their own voices have attractively imitated the political icons of the state. Krishna Bhagavans punch dialogues are placed at apt timing.

Farzana’s acting in the doctor’s role is just fine. Kausha as Muntha-Biryani Muthyalu, Telangana Sekunthala as Swarnakka who gives credits, MS Narayanan as doctor, Raghu babu as Reverse-gear SI, Dr.Sivaprasad as Don Saleem, Chalapathi Rao, Kavitha did well within the scope of their roles.

Technicians Work

Music composed by Jeevan Thomas for the lyrics written by Bhaskara Bhatla Ravikumar are good. Even though three cameramen have worked in this movie namely Arunkumar, Vijaykumar and Ram Pinisetty, except a song featuring Jyothi lakshmi and Kausha, the cinematography doesn’t dazzle at any point.

Fights by Ganesh, and punch dialogues written by Dasari Brahmam are the saving grace of this movie.

Director's portrayal

The king of ring when it comes to comedy flicks is Srinivas Reddy. As a director, he has reaped a whole lot of success with his hilarious entertainers. But, in this movie it appears as if he got carried away. The maker has given utmost importance on the humor quotient but failed to render the same for the script. The director clearly failed to notice this crucial error in both the story and screenplay.

It is disappointing to see a noticeable lack in values of making, although the banner is new.

Criticism

Srinivas Reddy did acclaim huge successes with his comedy entertainers. He continues his trend in this movie and tickles the funny bone plausibly. Yet, a lack of attention in scripting lags the movie behind. If the plot is made strong and comedy is used as an ingredient, maybe it would have become a entertaining flick. But alas, the filmmaker couldn’t help Kuberulu clear his debts.

Andamaina Abaddam

Life itself has a lie in it. People do lie for a lot of reasons in life – to maintain secrecy, one’s own reputation, to shield others feelings and so on. The elder’s saying goes as, “Lie is good when it’s meant for a pious purpose. One can lie if it doesn’t carry a bad intention.” These words form the storyline of 'Andamaina Abaddam'.

Director RaviRaja Pinisetty was on a break for awhile and now he is back with 'Andamaina Abaddam' starring Raja, Kamna Jhathmalani in the lead. PP Reddy, M.KesavaRaju and Jonnada Ramana have produced the movie jointly on Murthy Mega Hindustan banner. The film was released today on 5th December.

Story

Pradeep (Raja) and Vaishnavi (Kamna) are in Bangkok for their higher studies. In a romantic interlude, they get acquainted with each other. Eventually the pair falls in love and decides to get married.

The heroine’s father Akula Raghu Ram (Nagababu) is completely against love and he doesn’t believe in such a concept. At the same time Narendra (Nilalgal Ravi) is always in favor of love and lovers. Vaishnavi who is aware of her dad’s nature, knows that he will never consent for their marriage. So, she proposes Pradeep to marry her by registering in Bangkok.

But, Pradeep doesn’t agree to her idea. He assures her that he will convince her parents and marry with their approval. One of the friends of Akula Raghu Ram, Ravudu (Naresh) brings the news of his daughter’s love to him. The father gets completely enraged yet their marriage takes place in a happy ending. All this events takes place based on a lie uttered by Pradeep.

What was the lie that Pradeep told to marry Vaishnavi? What consequences do they face later on? How did it all end? Is the movie’s plot that is being narrated in the two and half hours.

Performance of Artists

Raja as Pradeep has enacted the character well, but he doesn’t have any specific points to be appreciated about. Kamna as Vaishnavi is just ok, and mentioning her appearance cannot be referred as a special attraction. Nagababu as Akula Raghubabu justified the character exhibiting dignity that is much needed. Similarly, Nilalgal Ravi as Narendra and Sudha as his wife portrayed their characters well.

In other roles, Shivaji Raja, Surekha Vani, Hema, Sudeep, Rekha, Radhakumari, have presented an average performance. Specially, the entertainment aspect has been presented well by MS Narayana, Posani Krishna Murali, Ali and Naresh.

Technical aspects

The technical aspects of the movie are not so praiseworthy. MM Sreelekha's composition of songs and re-recording, editing by Gautham Raju, lyrics by Bhaskar Bhatla and dialogues by Ramesh Gopi are all average. Ram Pinisetty's photography gets just a tick.

On a whole, the movie lacks in technicality and has nothing to boast about. It is all on an average scale.

Cons

The biggest drawback is the vintage story that is presented in the same old way and not refreshing at all. The slow performance by Naresh lags seriously. The upcoming scenes are so predictable which creates boredom. Narrative style is not captivating and viewers get bored at times. Music of this movie is so average and lyrics are on the same. They aren’t of high quality and fail to be an addition in the already slow paced movie.

Director's Portrayal

RaviRaja Pinisetty who earlier directed several mega hits with big heroes has directed this movie after a long gap. However, undoubtedly the director didn't succeed in presenting the film according to current trend. Maybe he has lost touch of the taste of present day audiences.

Even though the story is of old times, the director’s taut screenplay could have made the movie interesting. But unfortunately he didn’t do so.

Criticism

Director RaviRaja Pinisetty was a successful maker with various box office hits. Both his action and family entertainers were received equally earlier. But this time he failed to garner attention. Although the story selection is good, the screenplay is not in accordance with the current trend. In a nutshell, the director has said a not so beautiful lie.

Neninthe

Aspiring to glint atleast once on the silver screen, a slew of youngsters arrive at KrishnaNagar and FilmNagar in Hyderabad, with a myriad dreams in their eyes. The aspirants are seen making rounds to the offices of producers and directors; also to the studios, to try their luck everyday.

The director depicts the flip and flop sides of these aspirants, makers, media, fans and even the viewers. In short 'Neninthe', is all about the film industry in a satirical way.

Ravi Teja as hero Siya debuting as heroine, Puri Jagannath directed 'Neninthe', which has been produced by DVV Danayya on Universal Media banner. The movie is released on 18th this month. Here, we present a concise review on the film.

Story

Ravi Kumar (Ravi Teja) completes his MBA and gets ready to realize his long cherished dream of becoming a movie director. His mother Rajyalakshmi (Rama Prabha) supports his ambition and encourages him all the way. Ravi joins as an assistant director with Idly Viswanadh (Brahmanandam), while Narayana (MS Narayana) is his co-director. Mallik (Subbaraju) is the star hero, and Sai (Sairam Shankar) is his ardent fan. Shayaji Shinde plays the producer.

Idly Viswanadh (apparently aping Puri Jagannath) begins to direct a film starring Mallik. Sandhya (Siya) is one of the group dancers, who aspire to become a star actress. Ravi meets Sandhya on the sets of the film, and gradually their acquaintance develops in to love.

A rich rowdy sheeter Yadu’s (Supreet Reddy) eyes falls on the riveting Sandhya.

One fine day Ravi narrates the subject of 'Neninthe', which he plans to direct himself, to producer Shayaji Shinde and convinces him to make a film with it. The producer although likes the story, denies to make it with Ravi as director, just because he is not ready to risk his investment with a debutant director. Consequently, Ravi also rejects to share his story. Ravi then narrates his story to Mallik, who also expresses his doubt on the feasibility.

However, after a trial shoot Mallik gets impressed and convinces the producer. As the producer incurred a heavy loss just before this proposal, he agrees to go with the project only if some one finances the movie. The rowdy Yadu makes his entry and agrees to finance the film. The movie begins shooting.

What are the further developments? Did Sandhya become a heroine? What was the response to Ravi's debut film? Did Yadu create any obstructions? All these have to be watched on screen.

Performance of artists

Ravi Teja with an interest in films, entered industry as a character artist with 'Allari Priyudu'. Later he also worked as an assistant director. He debuted as hero with 'Sindhuram'. Obviously, he did a good job in portraying an assistant director in 'Neninthe'. The dialogues of Puri Jagannath like ‘Paisaa sampaadinchadam chethakani vaadiki preminche hakku ledu’ and ‘Thuduchukunte pothundi anukunte nootiki thombai-thommidi saarlu thuduchukovadaniki ready’ and ‘Kaani nene pothanante nuvve pothav’ are wonderfully presented by him. He delivers his best with the character and makes it more dignified.

Siya debuted with this film as a heroine. She had given out a splendid performance that the audiences could see the character of a side dancer. Siya is nowhere to be found in the movie as she has lived her character. She is undisputedly an additional asset to the film.

Ramaprabha as hero's mother, Surekha Vani as sister to the heroine, Krishna Bhagavan as brother-in-law to heroine, Brahmanandam, SubbaRaju, Mumaith Khan, Venu Madhav, Shayaji Shinde, Uttej, Raja Ravindra have all performed gracefully in their roles.

Sairam Shankar who played as the fan of star hero, did a good job. Telangana Shakunthala's character although appears for a short time, is a memorable one.

Technicians work

Puri Jagannath and Ravi Teja teamed up for this film after a hat trick of hits 'Itlu Sravani Subrahmanyam', 'Idiot' and 'Amma Nanna O Tamil Ammai'. Music and re-recording composed by Chakri is notable and orchestrated well. To be more specific the song 'Krishna Nagare Mava…' penned by Bhaskara Bhatla, is already a hit with the audience. The song 'Oh I Miss you' written by Ramajogaiah Sastry is also attractive.

Shyam K Naidu who is an inevitable technician in all films directed by Puri, did a very good work in photography for this film as well. Editing by Varma makes the film go steadily with out boring the audience. The sets constructed by art director Chinna look natural.

Director's portrayal

Summing up the struggles that he faced in industry while working as an assistant director, the pain behind the aspiration, and various currently perplexed issues like media, yellow journalism and reverence of fans, etc. in industry, Puri presented 'Neninthe' very well on Celluloid.

His punch dialogues have reaped good response. Although the backdrop is well known, the director presented the story without loosing the commercial touch.

He aimed at everyone (except the producers) who is connected to industry with satires in a realistic approach which is a good attempt. Some sensitive aspects like – the reviews presented by media, are said to influence the success of a movie in overseas releases; yellow journalism and its impact on the personal life of artists; as shown in the movie may be partially correct but not every time.

Criticism

Unlike, some of the earlier movies made on this background, which focused on a single aspect of movie making, 'Neninthe' presents a wide view of the industry and the people involved behind the cinema. The satires shot towards the media are realistic to a graceful extent.

We can say Puri Jagannath has succeeded in his attempt to bring the other side of silver screen on to the big screen, but not without ruffling feathers of few. In short, it is a worthy watch that entertains and brings out the story behind the story.

Cast: Ravi Teja, Siya, Mumaith Khan, Krishna Bhagawan, Brahmanandam, MS Narayana, Supreet, Sayaji Shinde, Subbaraju, Sairam Shankar, Raja Ravindra, Uttej, Rama Prabha, Surekha Vani, Satyam Rajesh, Venu Madhav, Kovai Sarala, Melkote etc.

Nachavule

In contemporary days, the fashion statement is all about the number of boyfriends or girlfriends one has to flirt with, among the youngsters. In par with this commendable attitude of the youth, ‘Nachchavule’ directed by Ravi Babu has been made on Ushakiran Movies banner. Starring Sai Subhakar and Madhavi Latha in the lead cast, the movie has been produced by Ramoji Rao after a hiatus. Here is a review on the movie that got released on 19th December.

Story

The story starts off with the life of protagonist’s parents who is Kasi Viswanath and Sushma (Raksha). His parents fall in love and get married. Yet, his father Viswanath never takes the plunge to understand Sushma and her feelings. Lav kumar (Sai Subhakar) is their son who becomes an adult under the eyes of their loveless parents.

His acquaintance with girls starts off at an early age of 6, when he presents a chocolate to his next door neighborhood girl, Pinky on his birthday. But, he gets heart broken when Pinky presents it to some other boy, adding that it was she who bought it for him. Seeing all this leaves a deep scratch in Lavkumar and creates an impact in his mind that girls are not trustworthy. So, as he grows up, he becomes a boy with an attitude. He starts flirting with girls all the way teamed up with his buddy Sinu (Narasimha). Although his flirty talk earns him a slap or two, he never changes path. But, in the end he gets enlightened under a mango tree and decides to woo a girl rather than trying random stones on many aimlessly.

In comes Anu (Madhavi Lata) with whom he starts his wooing techniques to hook up. A competitor named Navin, who resides near Anu’s home, gives Lav a tough time. He also tries to win her heart which leads to repeated clashes between Lav and Navin. In a twist, Lavkumar gets to save Anu’s father from a heart attack. The incident develops a soft corner in Anu who befriends Lav, and the relationship upgrades to love. However, the devil in Lav makes him to take Anu for granted. He tries to flirt with others girls too which disappoints Anu immensely. A dejected Anu plans to relocate during when Lavkumar’s mother Sushma dies of brain tumor. A series of changes takes place as his father who is always irritated and restless, becomes silent and poised. All these make Lavkumar realize the depth of relationship and the purity of love. In what way do Lavkumar get back to Anu is to be watched on screen.

Performance of Artists

Sai Subhakar has earlier appeared as a child artist in some movies. Without much publicity, now he debuted as a hero with 'Nachchavule'. He performed gracefully in the character of a teenage lover boy in this film. His performance is impressive and does justice to his role.

Madhavi Lata who debuted as heroine is equally good in her role as a naïve lover. Kasi Viswanath who stepped as a director with 'Nuvvuleka Nenulenu' in to Tollywood, has started his second innings in the industry as an actor. He sheens in the role of the hero's father. Raksha did well within the purview of her character.

Kamesh as heroine's father, Narasimha as hero's friend, Navin is a character with a bit of negative shade, and another artist who played hero's brother, have all shared screen space with their neat performance.

Technicians Work

Music director Sekhar Chandra composed delightful music although this is his very first venture. The music plays one of the main assets in taking the movie to new heights. Lyrics by Bhaskara Bhatla Ravi kumar, editing by Marthand K Venkatesh are good and does a neat job.

N.Sudhakar Reddys cinematography is very nice. Especially, the light & shade effects that are featured in the songs look alluring.

Director's portrayal

Ravi Babu who learnt direction in Hollywood, has already proved himself with his first film 'Allari'. He later made films like 'Ammayilu Abbayilu', 'Party' and 'Anasuya'. Now the director has churned out 'Nachchavule' which makes the youth to ponder over the subject. He had succeeded in presenting the view point clearly on screen. Comprising of a myriad of new faces and no stars in the lead, Ravi Babu reaped the comment Nachchavule (liked U) from the audience.

Criticism

The message of the movie relates that parents are a role model for their children and they naturally tend to adopt the morals exemplified by them. So, the child should be treated with love and affection, and also be guided in the right path. The movie is a mirror reflection of the attitude of present generation who misinterpret relations and people. It’s a message aptly conveyed for the youth and parents alike.

Director Ravi babu deserves applause for choosing a contemporary script and making it entertaining. ‘Nachchavule’ will sure be a delight for the youth.

Sasirekha Parinayam

Inspired by the Sesirekha Parinayam episode in the classic film 'Maya Bazar' (1957 release), creative director Krishna Vamsi envisaged the latest film 'Sasirekha Parinayam'. The movie has Tarun and Genelia sharing screen space for the first time as the lead cast. Sunkara Madhu Murali has produced the film on Karthikeya Creations banner. The film has got released on January, 1st. We present a brief review on 'Sasirekha Parinayam' that defines the pros and cons in its narrative style.

Story

Bujjamma alias Sasirekha (Genelia) is the only daughter of Tatabbai (Ahuthi Prasad), a Jamindar in Amalapuram. Sasirekha stays with her paternal uncle Sivaji Raja and aunt Surekha Vani in Kakinada, to pursue her studies in B.Sc. Computer Science.

On a fateful day, her stern father orders her to come back to their home town urgently. After her arrival, she realizes that her marriage has been fixed with an NRI and the engagement is done. Adding to her surprise, she comes to know that her marriage is on the next day. In a frantic pace to sort it out, Bujjamma expresses her discontent over the sudden marriage arrangements and tells her mother that she wants to meet the groom. But, her father wants to get her married off at any cost.

At this juncture, the groom Abhimanyu's (Tarun) father Gopala Krishna demands them to pay the balance dowry else he warns them of halting the marriage. Displeased with the money mindedness of groom's father, Bujjamma flees away from home with her jewels.

On the way, she comes across Abhimanyu (Tarun), the supposed to be groom while leaving the town. Abhimanyu learns from his brother that the bride had run away. He tags behind Bujjamma and intros himself as Anand.

Bujjamma wants to go to her friends place in Hyderabad secretly. Learning that her uncle (mama) Subbaraju and Abbulu (Raghubabu) are searching for her, she plans to run away with Anand to reach Hyderabad. During the eloping journey, she falls in love with Anand. Did Abhimanyu, who was moving with Bujji in the disguise of Anand, reveal to her that he was the groom? Did they both reach Hyderabad safe? What happened at the end? Watch 'Sasirekha Parinayam' to get your questions answered.

Performance of Artists

Tarun who was restricted to handsome lover boy characters, has enacted a matured role for the first time. His acting skills are plausible in the climax scenes which deserve applause. We could see a fresh new actor in Tarun with this flick.

Genelia's performance should be mentioned at this point. She bagged critical applause for her role of Hasini in 'Bommarillu', and now her style is on par with excellence. She has demonstrated a wide rage of expressions which could have been made possible by none other than her. Although she's a learner in Telugu, her synchronization with her acting in the scenes with lengthy dialogues has come out well. Genelia has once more restated with what she is best at – the bubbly jubilant girl.

Paruchuri Gopala Krishna as Tarun's father played a character that is distinct from his earlier mass roles. 'Ahuthi' Prasad who gave a good act in 'Chandamama', did well in this film. MS Narayana's even though short cameo has not failed to tickle the audience with his role of a Tax Payer.

Subbaraju, Sivaji Raja, Tulasi, Surekha Vani, Giri, performed well with in the scope of their roles.

Technicians Work

The most widely known fact is Krishna Vamsi's films will sure have a colorful rich look in every frame. 'Sasirekha Parinayam' is no different and the director's touch is embedded all the way. Bhaskar Samala debuted as a cinematographer with this movie. The initial sequences of the film that shows the marriage activities and then a few scenes filmed near Nagarjun Sagar are beautiful and captivating. Art work by DY Satyanarayana is natural and fits aptly.

Dialogues rendered by Nagaraju who debuted as a writer with 'Gamyam', are fine. One of heroine's dialogue 'Adavallu sadharanamga premincharura, preminchadam modalupedithe jeevithantham marachiporu'. Adi mundu thelusukondra – is notable.

Music composed by Mani Sharma and the background score are not stupendous but not bad either. The song 'Ninne Ninne korukuni kusuminche…' has a good tune. 'Edo' is one more theme score that is soothing to listen to. Lyrics by Seetharama Sastry and Ananth Sriram have meaningful words.

Director's Portrayal

Krishna Vamsi is among the list of most anticipated directors and his movies are always under high speculation. Despite its good narration, the plot has been told and re-told a number of times in cinema. Yet, his fresh presentation makes it more appealing and a good watch. The movie lacks in director's touch at certain places. So, be prepared to see it as a movie and this is not one of Krishna Vamsi's best yet.

Criticism

'Sasirekha Parinayam' has flavors of an old story in a new movie yet it doesn't fail to entertain. Talks were on about the movie being inspired from the Hindi 'Jab We Met' but excluding the runway and 'Edo' theme, it doesn't have any similarity to it. But, a lagging issue is the movie is far behind Krishna Vamsi's style. In a nutshell, keep aside your thoughts of 'Jab We Met' and don't expect a Krishna Vamsi movie. You will enjoy 'Sasirekha Parinayam' which is a wholesome family entertainer.

King

King – The most anticipated movie of Akkineni Nagarjuna is now out for all his fans to feast on. The month of December has always been considered as a lucky charm for Nag as his movies 'Manmadhudu', 'Mass', 'Don' were all Dec blockbusters. Now, it is a widely known sentiment of his among the film fraternity. On the same hope, 'King' the extravagantly made movie of 2008 got released worldwide on Christmas eve. This is the first time ever for a Nag movie to be released with the most number of prints. 'King' is an expensive highly expectant movie with a first time combination of Nagarjuna – Sreenu Vaitla & Trisha. It is produced by D.Siva Prasad Reddy on Kamakshi Kalaa Movies banner.

Here, we present a concise review on the film.

Story

The story starts off in Khairatabad area where Gyaneshwar (Srihari) is a vagagabond. The area is under his control and he's the only one authorized to do settlements upon petty issues. In comes Bottu Seenu (Nagarjuna) who is a tough competitor for the established don. The new entrant takes over his area and starts settling things on his own. This act of Bottu Seenu enrages Gynaeshwar who threatens him to get out of the place and he's the only one who is for this job. But, Bottu lends a deaf ear to his warning and carries forward. At last, Gyaneshwar has no where to go. So, as a last resort he compromises with Bottu for a 10 percent share in the profits. The deal gets done.

On a beautiful interlude in a rainy day, Bottu Seenu comes across Sravani (Trisha). He falls in love with her and makes utmost efforts to woo her heart. But, bad luck for Bottu as Sravani was already in love with a software engineer Sharath (the second Nag). Bottu gets disappointed yet a twist of fate awaits there. The girl he loved was his arch rival Gyaneshwar's sister all the time.

Gyaneshwar dotes his sister and wants a happy life for her. He knows clearly that as he is a rowdy no one respects him if not for fear. Moreover, he never got married due to his illegal business and this in turn will surely affect his sister's life too. So, to keep her away from his other world, he leaves her in the care of their aunt (Sana) and uncle (MS Narayana). Gyaneshwar keeps his identity under cover to protect his sister and stayed aloof from her.

Meanwhile, he gets to know Sharath's love for Sravani. Happy over her sister's good times, he gets them betrothed in a ceremonious occasion. Again a sudden twist reveals that Gyaneshwar has made a blunder by committing his sister with no other than the villainous Bottu Seenu. Seenu impersonates Sharath which he fails to acknowledge. So, to make things right he takes further steps to get rid off Bottu Seenu and give his sister to Sharath.

In comes the third Nag, when associates of Dasu Appaji (Jaiprakash Reddy) abducts Bottu Seenu, believing him to their 'King' Raja Chandra Varma (third Nag). They take him to assert his throne at Coimbatore Rajmahal. A whole lot of commotion and revenge prevails in the palace with Bottu in King's place. In the palace stays Pooja (Mamatha Mohandas), who awaits to take revenge on King's brother Ajay (Deepak) by murdering him.

Leaving a whole load of questions like Who's 'King'? In what way Sharath, Bottu Seenu and King related? Who's Pooja and why she is revenging against Ajay? Who does Sravani get married to? And finally Where is the real 'King'?, the plot goes forward keeping us glued to the seats. Watch 'King' to get your queries answered in the most entertaining way.

Performance of Artists

Nagarjuna is an actor whose expertise in portraying class as well as mass characters is wide known. 'King' is an apt fuel for his demeanor and bought out his versatility thoroughly in a single movie. As Bottu Seenu, he appeases the masses and the software engineer Sharath looks smart and elegant. Adding to the splendor is the 'King' Raja Chandra Varma who looks quite royal and impressive. His performance is laudable in all the three characters with his very own disparate style. In a scene, the soul of King lands into Bottu Seenu. Nagarjuna has displayed an extraordinary performance in this area with her slick acting skills. After a long gap, the audience did get to see vibrant steps in his dance moves.

Even though, he's the father of a son who is debuting as a hero into cinema, nature seems to be graceful on the actor as nothing seems to have tarnished the artists charm, looks or energy.

Trisha is acting for the first time with Nagarjuna as his heroine (actually, the heroine for all the three Nag's). She has delivered a notable performance as Srihari's sister. Mamtha Mohandas has brilliantly etched herself in the character of Pooja, which has some negative shades.

Earlier in 'Dhee' Srihari played the role of Narasimham Yadav, a character of a rowdy who speaks in Telangana accent. His character Gyaneshwar in 'King' looks like part -2 of his earlier caricature, which he wins with his hands down. Brahmanandam as copy music director JayaSurya, has feasted with comedy.

Jaiprakash Reddy as Appaji entertained well speaking in Rayalaseema accent. Shayaji Shinde as Gopi Mohan, Ajay as Bombula Kittu, Suneel as software engineer Sharath, Venu Madhav as an assistant to Srihari, last but not least Krishna Bhagavan, Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam, Geetha, Sudha, Surekha Vani, Rajitha, Supreeth, Kelly Dorjee as Bhagath Seth, Benerjee, Srinivas Reddy, 'Chitram' Seenu, AVS, Master Bharath, Surya and others have all shared screen space with worthy performances.

Technicians Work

In combination with Sreenu Vaitla, Devi Sree Prasad earlier composed music for films like 'Anandam', 'Neekosam', 'Dubai Seenu' and 'Ready'. The tunes he composed for 'King' are the most fascinating part of the film. The re-recording has some great background scores.

Amongst the lyrics penned by Ramajogaiah Sastry and Sahithi, 'Chukka Chukka Palachukke…', 'Nuvvu Ready Nenu Ready', 'King' and the beach song are noteworthy. Story by Kona Venkat and Gopi Mohan, and the dialogues written in par along with the script by BVS Ravi are done with meticulous work.

Prasad Moorella's has presented every frame lavishly and it looks colorfully serene. Lighting effects and silhouette in some scenes, along with visuals of actions parts has been done well. Action scenes directed by Ram-Lakshman; AS Prakash's art work, MR Varma's editing all stand as pillars to bring "king' to new heights. The final lag in the film should have been trimmed a little and if the editor has made it taut, it would have been appreciable.

Director's portrayal

Sreenu Vaitla with entertainment as his sole property has made 'King' appropriately. The movie with unpredictable twists thoroughly entertained the audience. In his best area comedy, Sreenu has bough in Nagarjuna's style of action and churned out a entertaing movie that has been seasoned with twists and turns. Again, he has made evident that he's the only disparate director who could bring out a movie like this.

Critcism

In a focused idea to entertain in and outm 'King' is made. With an exception of few pit stops that slows the narration towards the end along with the missing of few logical questions, the movie in a nutshell is a 'King Size Entertainer' for Nag's fans this year. Surely, Nagarjuna's December sentiment is going to be made evident in 'King' once again. The making value for SivaPrasad Reddy's banner is also on the raise this time.

Maska

Doing ‘Maska’ (trying to impress) is always an inevitable part of every man’s life. Some try to ‘Maska-fy’ others for the sake of job, while some for a favor. It’s always young guys who do it to lure the girls. All these kinds of ‘Maskas’ are comprised in MS Raju’s latest movie ‘Maska’.

Starring Ram, Hansika, Sheela as the hero and heroines, in the direction of B.Gopal, on Sumanth Arts banner mega maker MS Raju’s latest movie is ‘Maska’. MS Raju who is well known as ‘Sankranthi’ Raju for his block buster hits released following the hits launched on the festive day. For awhile, he was out of form and had a lag to bring out hit movies. This year, he made a comeback with ‘Maska’ for Sankranthi, to restate his niche as ‘Sankrathi’ Raju.

‘Maska’ is released as a Sankranthi gift today on 14th Jan. Here is a concise review on the movie that criticizes the pros and cons.

Further, they tell him that Simhachalam has another unofficial wife (Sita) and a daughter (Hansika). They advise him that if he can prove it, it will sure fetch him the post, instead of losing it to Simhachalam. Corrupted by the idea, Shinde sends his group of followers to search for Sita & Meenakshi (Hansika) who lives in Hyderabad.

A twist in the story takes place here. Krishnakanth aka Krish (Ram) is an idler. He has a friend called Suneel. Krish dreams to go to America and get settled in life. With this aim, he plans to marry a girl working in the software industry. Parallel to his first love, he begins to lure Manju (Sheela) who acquires a visa to America. Manju happens to be the only daughter of Rayalaseema factionist Simhachalam (Mukhesh Rushi).

Krish in a happenstance shows out a photograph of Meenakshi (Hansika) to Manju, saying (maska-fying) that he is in love with her and she refuse to accept it. The incident turns Manju an ardent lover for Ram.

On the same time, when Manju was about to propose to Krish, Meenakshi witnesses the scene. What happens next? Who is it the people of Shinde are searching for? Who becomes the minister Simhachalam or Shinde? Who does Krish love and get married too. Actually, who is Meenakshi? Watch ‘Maska’ to find the answers.

Performance of Artists

Ram, the debutant hero of ‘Devadas’, which was a hit some years back has shown excellent performance in ‘Maska’. Especially, his dance moves for the ‘maro maro Maska maro… Baghdada Gajadongai vastha.. ‘song is extraordinary. Ram has recreated his magic, and over shadows his own image in ‘Devadas’. We may say this is Ram’s Maska for the audience.

Hansika who played as Meenakshi and Sheela who played as Manjula are a prominent part of the movie. Sheela, the innocent girl of ‘Parugu’ has delivered a plausible show. Her glamour show is an added asset for this film.

Suneel, the inseparable cast of MS Raju’s movies, has appeared in a lengthy role that offers scope. He has entertained the audience with his unique style and contributed his part to the movie’s success. The scenes featuring Ram and Suneel are entertaining on screen. After a long gap since ‘Manasanthe Nuvve’, Suneel has played a meaty character and reaped applause from the film goers.

Mukhesh Rushi and Pradeep Ravath as villains, Telangana Shakunthala, Seetha, Naresh, Jhansi, Abhishek, Sivaparvathi, Dharmavarpu Subrahmanyam, have all given able performance within the limits of their roles. Brahmanadam creates uproar in the cinema halls even though his appearance time is not so lengthy.

Technicians Work

Chakri has composed music for the first time in MS Raju’s film. He has got his wish to compose fast beat songs with this film. All the six songs tuned by him are good and few numbers have repetitive value. Re-recording in the movie suits the storyline and is apt.

Shekhar V Joseph, the cinematographer for MS Raju’s block buster movie ‘Okkadu’, had done a beautiful job for ‘Maska’ with captivating visualization.

The sets designed by Rajeev Naire are beautiful, specially for the songs ‘Aa vaipunna.. ee vaipunna’ and ‘Baghdad gajadongai vastha’ are lavish and elegant.

People are quite aware of risky and interesting stunt scenes of B. Gopal’s flicks. ‘Maska’ is equally promising with the action sequences directed by Ram-Lakshman. The USP of the stunts is the chasing sequence of Ram-Hansika that involves four scorpio’s being blasted. Senior editor Kotagiri Venkateshwara Rao’s editing is good.

Director’s Portrayal

‘Samara Simha Reddy’, ‘Narasimha Naidu’ and ‘Indra’ are in the line of block busters made by B.Gopal. ‘Maska’ that is entertaining through out the way has once again proved his talent to churn out action flicks. The director also proved that he can compete equally with the contemporary young directors.

MS Raju who always has writes tantalizing screenplay for his films, has done it again for ‘Maska’. He has made the story line steady and carries it interesting with his screenplay. Raju who gives quality films made on huge budget, has made ‘Maska’ without compromising on the quality. Thus, the making value of the banner has been retained.

Criticism

The makers have neatly presented a love story that runs parallel to a political satire. Erstwhile, B.Gopal successfully made ‘Bobbili Raja’ starring Venkatesh in the lead weaving a political drama commingled with a love story. He has re-conjured the magic with the successful ‘Maska’.

On the whole, although Maska has a few cons, they are not evident visibly while seeing the movie. Verdict: ‘Maska’ in an action entertainer that will surely rock the theaters this ‘Sankranthi’.
